Christine is the protagonist and co-producer of ‘Resilience’. Alongside the Wondermore team, she embarked on this creative endeavor as a way to stay alive and relevant during the pandemic and, most importantly, to turn her recovery into an adventure. She and her team never imagined ‘Resilience’ would become a multiple award-winning short, having been selected to over 12 international film festivals and receiving 5 film awards. ‘Resilience’ has been screened in 9 countries, and will have a special screening in Big Sur, at the Henry Miller Library, on July 1st 2023.
Description of the film
Resilience is the 3rd episode of a 5-part documentary series called “Una Mirada Adentro” - A look Within - , directed by Andres Bronniman and produced by Wondermore Films. It was the first Costa Rican documentary to be shown at an IMAX theatre. The full documentary features 5 episodes that take us through 5 ecosystems, each seen through a different human need: Community (Monteverde), Empathy (South Caribbean), Resilience (Mount Chirripó), Freedom (Golfo Dulce) and Awe (Nosara), and can be seen on Wondermore’s website. The series invited viewers to explore the "same country with new eyes" during the 2020 pandemic, which naturally made us reflect on our priorities, and appreciate the beauty of what’s essential in our lives.
In the film, resilience is defined as the ability with which a person returns to their center after a difficult stimulus. Few things cultivate this ability more than climbing a mountain.
It was perhaps with that in mind that Christine, chose to summit Mount Chirripó, after having climbed another much higher mountain: her process of overcoming cancer. In this emotional documentary, we accompany Christine on her two-year journey - from the moment of her frightening diagnosis, to her wedding day, and culminating at the most imposing peak in her home country, Costa Rica.
